How to clean Ugg or Sheepskin Boots

Boots are a type of footwear that most of us prefer to wear because they are adorable, warm and comfortable, especially the Ugg or known as sheepskin boots. The exterior is made up of suede which can often get easily scuffed and look dirty. And the interior of the shoe also starts smelling after wearing it for a long period. So we all might wonder about how to keep to clean these shoes? Here are a few tips which can be easily followed at home to clean your favourite Uggs!

Basic Cleaning Method

It is always advised that after each use, the ugg boots should be brushed with a suede brush to get rid of loose soil, dust or any other particles from the surface. The suede brush will also help to lift the nap on your suede, making it easier to clean your boots completely. Start the brushing from the top and brush it down. The same has to be followed before washing the boots.

There are detergents available in the market, especially for leather cleaning. The same can be used for cleaning this type of boots. All you have to do is first buy a good leather cleaner. Secondly, apply the cleaner to the sponge and gently scrub on to the shoes with a gentle scrub motion. The important thing you need to keep in your mind is not to add too much cleaner at once and not to apply the cleaner directly on to the shoes.

Certain Stains Treatments

Water Stains

If your boots get accidentally wet during rain or someone spilled the water leaves a stain if they are not properly dried. For removing water stain, dip a clean cloth in cold water and wet that stained area evenly. This will help it to dry up evenly and remove those watermarks.

Do stuff the shoes with a towel or a clean cloth so that it can hold their shape. Once done with the cleaning allow it to air dry away from direct heat as heat might damage the shoes. Lastly, brush the shoes in single directions to raise the pile.

Oil Stains

If you got some oil or makeup which contains oil substance, then take a piece of white chalk and rub it to the stains. Let it stay for some time- the powder will act as the absorbent and can suck up oil and grease. Then use a brush to gently dust off the chalk dust and the stain is gone. Instead of chalk, you can also use baby powder or corn starch.

Salt Stains

For salt stains, you can use a mixture of water and vinegar. Just wiped the stained area with a solution using a cotton ball or cloth. The acidic nature of vinegar will help in removing the salted stains. If the stain remains, then take your shoes to some drycleaners.

Scuff Marks

Scuff marks are another problem in the case of ugg boots. To get rid of those, use a rubber or an old toothbrush and rub it against the scuff marks. Make sure that you are not rubbing it on the nap too hard.

Get rid of Odour too

Sometimes the odour is also a problem you might have to deal with while cleaning the shoes. The best home remedy for the same is baking soda. Sprinkle a half cup of the soda in the shoes and let it stay overnight. The baking soda will absorb all the unpleasant smell from the shoes. Then in the morning simply dust off that powder. Finally your shoes are deodorised.

No Washing machine and dryer

You might think to use the washing machine or the dryer for deep clean of the boots at home, it’s not advised. The heat from the dryer can damage the skin of the boots.
