5 Best Uses of Lemon For Laundry

Is your laundry room laden with cleaning products that are full of unpronounceable chemicals? You’re not the only one. With a fast paced life it’s always easier to look out for options that’ll give us quick solutions. And sometimes with tough stains you aren’t left with the choice of using anything natural too. But there’s one natural ingredient that can work against the toughest of the stains. Yes! We are talking about Lemons.

This powerful fruit is literally filled with enzymes that are strong enough to whiten everything, from your teeth to your dull yellow shirt. Check out the 5 simple hacks to use the cleaning power of lemons in your laundry.

  • Bleaching
Do you feel like your whites aren’t really white anymore, or your dishcloths have turned into dull yellow?

You’ll be happy to know that the little old lemon is not only is a great bleaching alternative but smells really nice too.It is the acid in the lemons that helps to break down the stains and get those dreary whites to super bright back again.

All you’ve got to do is squeeze in a cup of lemon juice in a container and add at least 2 cups of water in it. Add this solution to your load of wash along with your usual detergent.

Note: Make sure you use the 2:1 ration to get maximum cleaning power of the lemon juice
  • Remove Rust Stains
You are wearing your favourite white cotton blouse and swipe against something rusty. Not a great feeling we know. Here comes lemon to the rescue!

All you’ve got to do is add some water to a kettle and put it on boil, while the water heats up, wet the stain with lemon juice. Now hold the stained area over steam for at least a few minutes.

You’ll see that the stain starts to get loose. Now launder the garment like you normally would.
  • Eliminate Juice Stains
Got juice splatters all over that beautiful dress? Just take 2 parts water with one part lemon juice in a container. Soak the garment in this solution and then wash it as usual.
  • Rid of Mold & Mildew
If you live in a place that’s humid or a home that does not have proper airflow, you are bound to go through this problem sooner or later. And what’s worse? Mold and mildew can literally damage fabrics by causing discoloration or even eating through the material.

Luckily, a nice paste of salt and lemon juice is a great spot treatment for those mildew stains. Just rub the paste over the stained area, put the fabric out in the sun for the paste to dry and now launder preferably with hot water to kill the remaining mold spores
  • Shoe Shine
Your regular materials like shoe polish or duster are easier and cheaper alternatives that work perfectly well, but if you want the look and quality of your finely crafted leather shoe to last for long, it’ll require a little more than extra care.

Take a soft sponge or a cloth, damp it with a little lemon juice and clean your leather shoes with the same. They will turn all nice and shiny in no time.

Now, we understand that cleaning shoes or getting rid of those nasty stains at home can be quite a task. So, if you want to avoid the hassle you should ideally opt for professional care.
